Vesteda and sustainability
What action we’re taking
As a letting company, we are working hard to renovate our older buildings and make them more sustainable, so we can reduce their energy consumption. Insulating our buildings properly makes them more comfortable to live in. How much you can save depends on your energy consumption as well as energy prices.
Why we are taking actions
We want 99% of our buildings to have a green energy label (A, B, or C) by 2024. At the moment, 96% of them have this label. We are prioritizing work on our buildings with a lower label (D, E, F, and G), with measures such as installing HR++ glass, insulating walls and roofs, and erecting solar panels.
Sustainability projects
In 2022 and 2023 we managed a green energy label for these buildings:
- Kluizeweg - Arnhem (from C to A)
- Botter - Hoorn (from D to A)
- Churchilllaan - Rijswijk (from E to A)
- Egelantierstraat - Badhoevedorp (from D to A)
- Kapittelweg - Hilversum (from D to C)
- Klaverhof - Alphen aan den Rijn (from D to A)
- Schuilenburg - Amersfoort (from E to A++)
- Westkapellelaan - Den Haag (from G to A)
The energy label jump is based on the most common energy label at sign-off.
By 2024, at least the complexes below will be made more sustainable:
- Tuindorp - Utrecht
- Bors van Waveren - Amstelveen
- Schippersmeen - Harderwijk

In most Vesteda homes, double glazing is the norm, but there are still a small number of houses that still have single-glazing windows, usually on the first and/or top floor. We aim to have all these homes fitted with double glazing as soon as possible. Are you renting a house with exterior single-glazing windows in your kitchen, living room, and/or bedroom? Let us know via My Vesteda and we can come and install double glazing instead.Saving energy in communal areas
Saving energy in communal areas
One way of saving energy in communal areas is to reduce the number of lights. But this actually delivers very limited savings. Plus, proper lighting is important for everyone’s safety, preventing trips and falls. Instead, over the past three years, we have replaced all incandescent and halogen lights with energy-efficient lighting in the communal areas of 25 apartment complexes – meaning the majority of our communal areas are now lit by energy-efficient lighting.Using the lifts more mindfully
Using the lifts more mindfully
The largest energy guzzler in communal areas is the lift. On average, the lift accounts for 80% of energy consumption in these areas.Heating in communal areas
Heating in communal areas
Most communal areas are already unheated, unless this is not possible.
